Let the Charm Speak for Itself - Naming and Designing
Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) launched a new project in 2019. At 7 Mallory Street, Wanchai, HKDC hosts exhibitions, workshops, guided tours and other activities related to design in Asia, making design a part of the public’s daily life. In the past, the activities by HKDC were mostly industry-oriented, giving a relatively professional impression. Unlike previous projects, Ztory gave a special name, designed a logo, key visual and visual identity system to this initiative which wants to reach out to the community.

To stand out from the crowd, first must find out its position in the market. Ztory noticed that the project site, located in the heart of Wanchai, is where local residents hang around and socialise. People usually associate design events to exhibitions or art galleries. However, as the project entered Wanchai, the public became attracted to join various activities as a community. The convenient location does not only invite residents to react, but also encourages designers to showcase their creativity for an ever increasing interaction.
Ztory suggested naming the initiative 'Design Spectrum'. Design penetrates our life as light does. Design is always involved, whether it is the colour scheme of a product or urban planning. The term 'spectrum' can represent the diversity and infinite possibilities of design. The name also implies that the project channels quality design into the community, which broadens the public's imagination and horizons.
Design Application
To resonate with the project name, the team used lustrous colours and shades on designing the logo, key visual and visual identity system. Depending on each exhibition theme, the colours and textures will change accordingly for distinct visual effects.

To enhance the youthful and vibrant personality of the initiative, Ztory created a coherent series of logos, key visual and visual identity system to bring everyone closer. Ztory hopes that 'the spectrum' will continue to expand through more exhibitions and events, let the design industry continue to shine in Hong Kong.
